ANKARA

Tennis veterans Serena Williams of the U.S. and Roger Federer from Switzerland advanced to the third round of the 2020 Australian Open on Wednesday. 

The world no. 9 in females, Williams beat Slovenian opponent Tamara Zidansek with the sets of 6-2, 6-3 in the second round at Rod Laver Arena.

The 2017 Australian Open winner, Williams, 38, will face Qiang Wang from China in the next round.

Separately, 38-year-old Federer — ranked third in men’s standings — eliminated Serbia’s Filip Krajinovic with the sets of 6-1, 6-4, 6-1 to march to the third round.
