US COVID-19 deaths climb to 11 with California victim

WASHINGTON

The U.S. death toll from the new coronavirus climbed to 11 Wednesday when officials in California recorded the first death from COVID-19 there. 

Officials in California's Placer County described the victim as elderly with underlying health conditions.

“While we have expected more cases, this death is an unfortunate milestone in our efforts to fight this disease, and one that we never wanted to see," Placer County Health Officer Dr. Aimee Sisson said in a statement.
