District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser announced on Monday that the city will begin easing some coronavirus-related restrictions this spring amid an uptick in inoculations.
Over 162,000 Washingtonians have been either partially or fully vaccinated, according to Bowser. That represents just shy of a quarter of Washington’s population of about 705,000 residents.
Beginning on May 1, seated live entertainment such as movie theaters can open at 25% capacity either indoors or outdoors, while live music will be allowed to take place near outdoor restaurant seating.
Major gatherings such as weddings, special events, graduations and awards ceremonies will also be allowed to take place with a 25% occupancy cap.
A 50% capacity limit is being applied to indoor non-essential retail shopping, museums, libraries and recreation centers, as well as public pools and outdoor races.
