Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Sunday his intention to request the dismissal of Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov. In a statement issued by the Ukrainian presidency, Zelenskyy revealed plans to present the personnel change to parliament this week.

“Oleksii Reznikov has served through more than 550 days of full-scale war. It’s time for a new direction,” Zelenskyy said.
The President has nominated Rustem Umerov, a Crimean Tatar Turk, to take over the key defense role. “I believe the Ministry requires fresh perspectives and new methods of engagement with both the military and the broader society. Rustem Umerov is the person to lead that change,” Zelenskyy added.
