Amid rising tensions in neighboring Iraq and Iran, Turkey’s benchmark stock index slipped 1.46%, or 1,639.11 points, to start Wednesday at 110,960.81 points.

At Tuesday’s close, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index fell by 1.07% to 112,599.92 points with a daily trading volume of 9.55 billion Turkish liras ($1.6 billion).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 5.9770 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Wednesday, up slightly from 5.9750 at Tuesday’s close.
