In a significant diplomatic engagement, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Türkiye hosted his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, on Friday for discussions aimed at bolstering bilateral relations and addressing regional security concerns, particularly in the Black Sea.
The high-profile meeting, conducted behind closed doors at Istanbul's historic Dolmabahce Office, underscored both nations' commitment to deepen ties amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.
Expressing his appreciation for Türkiye's steadfast support, President Zelenskyy took to the social media platform X to highlight the critical nature of the discussions. "Türkiye has been a reliable ally for Ukraine, providing essential support in these challenging times," Zelenskyy stated.
Central to the talks was the imperative of ensuring "unconditional security of navigation in the Black Sea," a concern Zelenskyy described as vital not only for the bilateral interests of Türkiye and Ukraine but also for the broader region and global food security. "By collaborating closely, we can achieve this crucial objective," he asserted.
Further emphasizing the strategic partnership, Zelenskyy expressed Kyiv's eagerness to enhance bilateral cooperation and joint ventures with Turkish defense industries. This move is seen as part of Ukraine's broader strategy to strengthen its defense capabilities amidst ongoing conflicts.
