ANKARA
Turkey’s state-run aid agency delivered supplies to help fight coronavirus to the West African country of Burkina Faso, said an official statement on Tuesday.
The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) said the handover ceremony for the supplies was held at Burkina Faso’s Health Ministry with the attendance of Ahmet Asim Arar, Turkey’s ambassador to the country, and Lionel Wilfried Ouedraogo, the Burkina Faso Health Ministry’s secretary general.
Speaking at the ceremony, Arar said that he believes fighting coronavirus requires multilateral cooperation and that Turkey’s aid through TIKA will expedite normalization in Burkina Faso.
Ouedraogo thanked Turkey for its support.
More than 9.13 million COVID-19 cases have been reported in 188 countries and regions since the virus emerged in China last December.
The US, Russia, Brazil, and India are currently the hardest-hit countries in the world.
The pandemic has claimed nearly 473,000 lives worldwide, while recoveries are at over 4.55 million, according to figures compiled by the US’ Johns Hopkins University.
