Turkey’s benchmark stock index closed the day at 101,982.96 points on Monday, up 2.22% from the previous close.
Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index started the day at 100,898.07 points. As of the daily close, it earned 2,214.81 points from the last week’s close of 99,768.15 points.
Borsa Istanbul markets will be closed on Tuesday as Turkey marks the Commemoration of Ataturk, Youth and Sports Day on May 19.
During the day, the index’s lowest level was 100,896.81 points, while the highest level was 102,224.52 points.
The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 720.4 billion Turkish liras ($104.3 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 14.8 billion Turkish liras ($2.16 billion).
On the first transaction day of the week, 84 stocks on the index rose, 13 were down, and three were flat compared to Friday.
The highest trading volumes were posted by polyester producer Sasa, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines and private lender Garanti.
Refrigerator producer Klimasan was the best performer, with its shares up 9.99%, while chemical company Alkim dropped the most, losing 10%.
The price of one ounce of gold was $1,765.30 by market close, up from $1,738.50 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.
The price of Brent crude oil was around $35.50 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Monday.
