ANKARA

Turkey’s benchmark stock index closed Thursday at 1,534.90 points, slightly rising 0.09%.

Starting the day at 1,537.60 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index gained 1.35 points over the midweek’s close of 1,533.55 points.

During Thursday’s trading, the BIST 100 hovered between 1,530.82 points and 1,544.63 points, with 46 stocks on the index rising, 52 down, and two flat compared to the previous close.

Closing the day with a market value of around 1.2 trillion Turkish liras ($162 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 24.6 billion liras ($3.4 billion).

Shares of glass maker Sise Cam, private lender Garanti BBVA, and automotive company Karsan recorded the highest trading volumes during the day.

Stocks of agricultural insecticides producer Hektas climbed the most with a 9.95% hike, while shares of stocks of conglomerate Bera Holding dropped the most, falling 5.56%.

One ounce of gold was sold for $1,820.50 by market close, down from $1,836.80 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $58.50 per barrel as of 6.00 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Thursday.
