ANKARA
A PKK terrorist has surrendered to Turkish security forces, according to the country’s National Defense Ministry on Tuesday.
The terrorist surrendered to Turkish commandoes near Iraq’s border in southeastern Hakkari province, the ministry said on Twitter.
“Escapes from terror organization continues. A PKK terrorist in Hakkari-Aktutun surrendered to our commandoes. A hand grenade, umbrella and other personal belongings, and a backpack seized during body search,” it said.
With the latest lay down of arms, the number of terrorists who surrendered through persuasion has risen to 95 in 2020.
In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK — listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US and the EU — has been responsible for the deaths of nearly 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants. The YPG is PKK’s Syrian offshoot.
