ANKARA
Turkey on Friday extended condolences to Myanmar over a landslide that left at least 162 people dead.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Turkey was deeply saddened that the landslide at a jade mining site in northern Myanmar has resulted in loss of at least 162 lives, while more than 54 were injured and unknown number of people went missing.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the relatives of those who lost their lives and to the friendly people of Myanmar, wish speedy recovery to those injured, and hope that the missing will be safely found soon,” the ministry added.
The landslide in the state of Kachin was caused by heavy rains, triggering a “muddy wave” which buried the miners collecting jade stones in Hpakantarea township.
