BOGOTA, Colombia

A series of earthquakes on Monday jolted Mexico’s Baja California state, according to the US Geological Survey.

The first temblor, a preliminary magnitude 4.4 quake, was reported at 8:09 a.m. local time (1509 GMT), and was followed by three earthquakes — two preliminary magnitude 5.1 quakes and a 4.5 magnitude quake.

The earthquakes were all reported within a span of 20 minutes near Maneadero, Baja California, about 120 miles (193 kilometers) southeast of the US-Mexico border.

The tremors were also felt in San Diego.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

Located on three large tectonic plates, Mexico is one of the world’s most seismically active regions.
