TEKIRDAG / GAZIANTEP / VAN, Turkey

Turkish security forces on Thursday seized over 7,462 liters of bootleg alcohol across the country.

In the northwestern province of Tekirdag, police teams confiscated at least 6,963 liters of bootleg alcohol and 245 liters of ethyl alcohol in the raids they carried out in 132 different addresses across the province.

In the southeastern province of Gaziantep, provincial gendarmerie teams seized 245 liters of counterfeit alcohol and equipment used in the distillation and bottling of the alcohol.

Also, in the Ipekyolu and Edremit districts of the eastern province of Van, police forces seized 254 liters of bootleg alcohol.

In Tekirdag and Gaziantep provinces, at least 81 people were nabbed for allegedly distilling and selling bootleg alcohol.

Bootleg alcohol is made by using low-cost methyl alcohol instead of ethyl alcohol, which can cause serious health issues and, in some cases, even death.
