ISTANBUL

A suspect was arrested and over 300 kilograms of heroin seized in an operation in Istanbul, police sources said on Thursday.

Acting on a tip-off, narcotics teams tracked down a truck in Istanbul’s eastern Tuzla district, the sources said, asking not to be named due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

Sniffer dogs found some 308 kilograms (around 680 pounds) of heroin in 600 bundles, according to the sources.

The value of the seized narcotics is estimated to be around 47 million liras (over $6.3 million).

The truck driver, identified only by the initials L.H., was taken into custody on charges of drug trafficking, the sources added.
