A military aircraft crashed in northwestern Iran on Wednesday, the official IRNA news agency said.

IRNA, citing a local official, said the plane crashed in Ardebil province.

It remains unclear how many people were on board.

The official said the cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Local media said rescue teams have been dispatched to the scene of the incident to find the wreckage of the plane and look for survivors.
