The new coronavirus caught a Turkish Super Lig football club on Thursday as eight people in Besiktas tested positive.
“The results showed that eight people tested positive for COVID-19,” Besiktas confirmed on the club website after all players, technical staff and club employees in Black Eagles’ training facility were tested Wednesday for a second time.
The positive cases were started to be followed and treated.
The Turkish club did not disclose the names of people for privacy concerns.
Turkey’s local football leagues, which have been suspended since March, are set to resume next month.
The paused top-tier Super Lig competitions will return on June 12.
The overall count of coronavirus cases in Turkey reached 143,114 on Wednesday.
A majority of patients — 101,715 — have recovered, while 3,952 have died so far, according to the official data.
