CHISINAU, Moldova

More coronavirus cases and fatalities were reported in several Eurasian and Central Asian countries on Saturday.

Moldova

Moldova reported at least six new fatalities from the novel coronavirus, bringing the country’s death toll to 1,123, the Health Ministry said in a statement.

Another 264 infections were reported over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases to 42,978, while a total of 31,330 people have recovered from the virus, it added.

Uzbekistan

At least two deaths and 245 new cases were reported in Uzbekistan, according to a statement by the Health Ministry.

The death toll in the country reached 390 and the total number of cases climbed to 47,287, including 43,866 recoveries.

Belarus

The Health Ministry in Belarus announced that 198 new infections were reported in the country, pushing the total number to 74,173, including 72,584 recoveries.

The death toll in the country increased to 750 with six additions, it added.

Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan registered 155 new virus cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the tally to 38,377, said the Health Ministry.

The death toll rose to 562 as three more people died of the virus. Most recently, 149 people recovered from the virus, taking the total number of recoveries to 35,756.

Tajikistan

The Health Ministry in Tajikistan confirmed that the total number of cases rose to 9,049, with 35 additions over the past 24 hours. The death toll stands at 72, it added.

Across the world, COVID-19 has claimed nearly 921,500 lives in 188 countries and regions since last December. The US, India and Brazil are currently the worst-hit countries.

Over 28.84 million cases have been reported worldwide, with recoveries exceeding 19.5 million, according to figures compiled by the US’ Johns Hopkins University.
