Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed arrived in Khartoum on Tuesday for talks with the head of Sudan’s Sovereign Council Abdul Fatah Alburhan and Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok.
The visit comes amid deep disputes between the Sudanese civilian and military components of the transitional government, formed as part of a power-sharing deal brokered by the Ethiopian premier last year.
Members of the Sudanese government have traded accusations over responsibility of the country’s economic crisis and management of dozens of companies belonging to the army.
The Ethiopian prime minister is also expected to discuss the latest developments of tripartite talks with Egypt and Sudan on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
His visit comes a week after Egyptian Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouli visited Sudan for talks.
