KIEV
More coronavirus cases and virus-linked fatalities were reported in Eurasian and Central Asian countries on Sunday.
Ukraine
The death toll in Ukraine reached 3,959 with 56 more fatalities over the past 24 hours, Health Minister Maksym Stepanov said.
Confirming another 3,130 cases that brought the total to 198,634 infections, the minister said 87,882 patients have recovered from the virus so far.
Georgia
Georgia’s Prime Ministry said in a statement that the caseload reached 5,295 with 294 new infections.
Recoveries have reached 1,906 as 87 more patients regained health.
A total of 836 patients are currently monitored for the novel infection at hospital, while nearly 5,674 people are in quarantine.
The former Soviet republic has confirmed 28 deaths so far.
Uzbekistan
As many as 313 new virus cases brought Uzbekistan’s tally to 55,132.
Four more virus-related fatalities raised the death toll to 455, while recoveries rose to 51,458, according to the Health Ministry.
As many as 3,218 patients are getting medical treatment, it added.
The virus that first appeared in Wuhan, China last December has spread to 188 countries and regions, according to the US’ Johns Hopkins University.
More than 32.8 million people have been infected, including nearly 995,000 deaths and 22.75 million recoveries.
China has come under global scrutiny over its response to the virus, with the US and it allies accusing that it covered up the origins and severity of the outbreak.
Beijing, however, insists the source of the virus is still unknown. It has largely contained the outbreak through a series of strict lockdowns and travel restrictions.
