China’s foreign trade in 2021 exceeded $6 trillion for the first time in history, official data showed, according to Chinese state-owned news agency Xinhua on Friday.

Total trade in goods amounted to $6.05 trillion last year, up $1.4 trillion from the previous year, according to the General Administration of Customs (GAC), it said.

China’s foreign trade with its top three trading partners – Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the EU and US – gained 19.7%, 19.1% and 20.2%, respectively.

The country’s trade with Japan climbed 9.4% and jumped 18.4% with South Korea, it added.

“China has been at the forefront of economic development and pandemic response globally, and maintained rapid growth in foreign trade, which registered a record high in volume and steady progress in quality,” GAC spokesperson Li Kuiwen said, according to Xinhua.
