ANKARA
Turkey’s benchmark stock index closed Tuesday down 39.74 points or 3.53% to stand at 1,087.16 points, after a four-and-a-half-day break for the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha.
Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index started the day up with a 1.20% hike to open at 1,140.39 points, compared to closing at 1,126.90 points on Thursday — last week’s final trading day.
One ounce of gold sold for $1,983.00 by market close, up from $1,962.50 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.
The price of Brent crude oil was around $44.03 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Tuesday, with a day range of $43.24 to $44.11.
At the beginning of this year, a barrel of Brent oil sold for around $58.
