ANKARA - The law foreseeing formation of a new commission named ''European Union (EU) Adjustment Commission'' was issued in the Official Gazette and entered into force on Saturday.
The new commission will examine whether or not bills or decrees in the force of law presented to the parliament are in compliance with the EU acquis in case of any demand.
Political parties and independent members will be represented according to the rate determined by the majority of the members.
The commission will fulfil below mentioned duties:
-The commission will express opinion to the other commissions by examining whether or not bills or decrees in the force of law are in compliance with the EU acquis.
-The commission will follow and discuss developments in Turkey's EU accession process.
-It will prepare an evaluation report on the developments in Turkey's EU accession process and the activities of the commission at the end of every legislative year and submit the report to the parliament.
-It will follow the developments in the EU and make examinations abroad when necessary and inform the parliament.
-The commission will conduct relations with EU organizations, parliaments of member and candidate countries and EU commissions.
-It will provide necessary information and documents on the efforts of the parliament regarding EU accession.
-The commission will carry out initiatives to inform the public opinion about the accession process.
Thus, Turkey is no more the only candidate country which does not have an EU Adjustment Commission among 15 member and 13 candidate countries.
