LEFKOSA - President Rauf Denktas of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) said on Thursday that European Union (EU) added a new one to its mistakes which it has done so far on Cyprus. Denktas said attitude of the EU in accepting Greek Cypriot side as the ''Cyprus state'' did not change the situation on Cyprus.
Denktas made a statement and said, ''if we had entered the EU within the scope of Annan plan, we would have entered as individuals in the state, not as a sovereign state.''
Denktas said the only response that would be given to this injustice would be to leave aside the internal disagreements, and to show the determination to the whole world to protect the state.
Stating that the Greek Cypriots continued its efforts to possess Cyprus, and that they tried to do this through the EU which it could not do with weapons and embargo, Denktas said, ''as they continue to do this, our fight will continue as protecting our state.''
Denktas said Turkish side was taken under a great pressure with Annan plan, adding that, ''accounts of those who put pressure proved to be wrong, Turkish Cypriot side is determined to protect its sovereignty and state, and Turkey supported Turkish Cypriot people in this respect.''
Denktas said Greek Prime Minister Costas Simitis made an invitation to the leaders of Turkish Cypriot political parties to meet, ''everyone should be careful for this'' he noted.
