Economic And Social Council Convenes

ANKARA - Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday, ''there are three issues on agenda of today's meeting of the Economic and Social Council. These are: increasing influence of works of the Council, assessing the works aiming at further improving investments and preventing unemployment and increasing employment.''
The Economic and Social Council convened under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Erdogan.
Addressing journalists prior to the meeting, Prime Minister Erdogan said, ''the Economic and Social Council was formed with a Prime Ministry decree in 1995 in order to provide social compromise and cooperation in developing economic and social policies. The council gained a legal structure on April 11, 2001. The council convenes once in three months upon invitation of the prime minister.''
''There are three issues on agenda of today's meeting of the Economic and Social Council. These are: increasing influence of works of the Council, assessing the works aiming at further improving investments and preventing unemployment and increasing employment,'' he noted.
Prime Minister Erdogan added, ''implementation of the Urgent Action Plan with the support of all sections of the society will provide the confidence in our economy. Therefore, institutionalization of the Economic and Social Council is of great importance. Meanwhile, some changes are required in structure and functioning of the council in order to increase its influence.''
Representatives of 39 trade unions, chambers and confederations are in attendance at the meeting.
