ERDOGAN PROPOSES SERBIA-MONTENEGRO MODEL
It was revealed that Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan proposed Serbia-Montenegro model for Cyprus during the summit in Belgrade. Greek Prime Minister Costas Simitis rejected the proposal. Simitis' rejection constitutes a double-standard in regard to the European Union (EU) criteria. Because, the model in question was imposed by the EU.

GUL DUE TO ATHENS
A signing ceremony will take place in Greek capital Athens on April 16 for joining of 10 countries to the European Union (EU) full membership. Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul will represent Turkey at the ceremony instead of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Ministry of Foreign Affairs sources said that Gul's attendance at the ceremony did not mean Turkey's recognizing the Greek Cypriot side.

GUL: ''TSK HAS DISPLAYED AN EXEMPLARY ATTITUDE''
Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said, ''the Turkish Armed Forces has displayed an exemplary attitude during the Iraq crisis. Turkey has worked harmoniously in a democratic order.'' Gul eulogized General Staff Chief General Hilmi Ozkok and other commanders.

TWO TURKISH JOURNALISTS SHOT IN MOSUL
Two automobiles carrying Turkish journalists were opened fire in Mosul city of Iraq. Kemal Batur from private SKY TV Channel was injured in his hand while cameraman Mesut Gengec was injured in his head. They were taken back to Turkey for medical treatment.

DONATION TO TURKEY APPROVED
The U.S. Congress approved donation of 1 billion U.S. dollars or loan up to 8.5 billion U.S. dollars, which was proposed by the U.S. President George W. Bush to be given to Turkey. The Congress stressed that Turkey should not enter northern Iraq unilaterally in order to get the loan or the donation.

ERDOGAN: ''WE WILL TAKE PART IN REBUILDING PROCESS OF IRAQ''
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, ''Turkey, as the only democratic country in its region, will play an important role in political rebuilding of Iraq. Also, we will take part in physical reconstruction of Iraq with our transportation opportunities and technical capabilities. I believe that Turkey will undertake the most important mission in rebuilding process of Iraq.''

RUSSIAN VESSELS COLLIDES WITH TURKISH VESSEL
Russian-flagged cargo vessel ''Mikhail Kuruyev'' collided with Turkish-flagged cargo vessel ''Mustafa Sofuoglu'' off Amasra town of northern province of Bartin. Water begun to leak into Turkish-flagged vessel. Crew members of the vessel were rescued by an Azerbaijani-flagged cargo vessel. Meanwhile, Russian-flagged vessel managed to flee from the area following the collision.

OIL FOUND IN BATMAN
The biggest oil layer of Turkey was found in Selmo field in Kozluk township in Batman province where Turkish Petroleum Corp. (TPAO) undertook drilling workings.
The Canadian PEMI company, which was working for Halliburton, the company of U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney, extracts 5,000 barrels of oil per day from the well. The oil field was hired for 10 years.
A total of 2,500 barrels of oil are obtained from 42 oil wells in the field per day.

GUL TO REPRESENT TURKEY IN ATHENS
Instead of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul will represent Turkey at ceremony where accession agreement of Greek Cypriot side to the European Union (EU) will be signed. Gul will go to Luxembourg and participate in Turkey-EU Associate Partnership Council meeting.
Gul will also hold bilateral contracts during his one-day visit to Athens.

SPRING CLIMATE IN TOURISM
Clouds on which dwelled on Turkish tourism dispersed as war in Iraq lasted short. Bookings started to be enlivened. Turkish Hotels Union Chairman Sinan Babila said, ''we were afraid to suffer 5-6 billion U.S. dollars because of war, but now that tourism sector can recover till may.''
Babila also said they could hold the congresses in Turkey which had been cancelled in far east because of SARS.

BAKU-CEYHAN CRISIS
Officials of Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) Consortium sent a letter to Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and told him to fulfill their responsibilities as the project delayed for three months. The officials also warned that they could take the project from state-run oil pipeline company BOTAS.

ERDOGAN: THERE IS NO SERIOUS DIFFICULTY IN KIRKUK
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said situation in Mosul and Kirkuk was under control, stating that, ''our liaison teams are there. There is no serious difficulty.''
Erdogan said the United States continued to send its teams to Mosul and Kirkuk, stating that Turkish liaison teams are there. There is not a possibility for a serious difficulty.

FM GUL: THERE MAY BE KURDISH-ARAB CLASH
Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said there could be clash between the Arabs and Kurds, stating that the region could be Palestine or Lebanon.
Pointing out that they closely covered Iraq, and got continuos information, Gul said, ''there is nothing we can say negative apart from confusion. Thanks God killings and massacre are out of question. They will not be allowed.''

''THERE IS NO NEED TO SEND SOLDIERS FOR THE TIME BEING''
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, ''there is not possibility of a serious difficulty in Mosul and Kirkuk.'' Meanwhile, Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said, ''news stories claiming that Turkmen were massacred do not reflect the truth. We cannot endure the issue of massacre.'' Gul stressed that there was no need to send Turkish soldiers to the region for the time being.

ERDOGAN NOT TO ATTEND CEREMONY IN ATHENS
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that he would not attend the ceremony to be held in Greek capital Athens on April 16 to mark 10 candidate countries' becoming full members of the European Union (EU). Erdogan added that Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul would represent Turkey at the meeting.
