IZMIR - An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale jolted Urla town of western Izmir province early on Thursday.
Officials of Bogazici University Kandilli Observatory Center and Seismology Institute told A.A correspondent that an earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale was recorded in Urla at 3.40 a.m.
Izmir Governor Yusuf Ziya Goksu said that there was no report of death people.
Goksu noted that 90 people applied to hospital as they jumped out of windows and balconies, as they suffered from panic attack and hypertension.
People were panicked because it was night and everything was normal in Izmir, Goksu said.
Goksu added that they would send a technical team to Urla for damage assessment works.
Seferihisar Mayor Hamit Nisanci said that wall of a house collapsed and there were cracks in many houses in their town.
Meanwhile, aftershocks continue. The aftershocks were recorded as 4.9, 4.0 and 3.9 on the Richter scale.
