LEFKOSA - TRNC Parliament Speaker Vehbi Zeki Serter said on Tuesday that the latest report of U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan was the proof of the biased ideas he had about the Turkish Cypriot side.
Serter said that the 'measures' of Greek Cypriot leader Tassos Papadopoulos showed the status which Greek Cypriots could consider for Turkish Cypriots.
Issuing a written statement, Serter assessed the latest report of Annan about Cyprus and the 'measures' of the Greek Cypriot side.
Noting that ''Turkish Cypriots don't accept the proposals of Papadopoulos who want to give only minority rights to Turkish Cypriots,'' Serter stated that it was not possible for any Turkish Cypriot individual to accept these 'measures.'
''The negative stance of the Greek Cypriot side about Annan plan is very well known, and Papadopoulos has further escalated the uncompromising attitude of former Greek Cypriot leader Glafcos Clerides. Papadopoulos went to The Hague Summit to reject the plan. Annan report's accusing only the Turkish Cypriot side is the continuation of the policy of putting Turkish side under pressure and urging it to accept impositions,'' Serter said.
Serter said that U.N. Secretary General was expected to present more realistic and consistent reports by giving importance to impartiality and justice, adding that yet Annan continued to protect the Greek Cypriot side.
Serter commented that the report and attitude of U.N. Secretary General would negatively affect the future process of the talks.
''Greek Cypriot leader Tassos Papadopoulos put forward proposals insulting the Turkish Cypriot people by being encouraged by Annan. His proposal package is worse than Annan plan,'' he said. Serter commented that the proposal package of the Greek Cypriot side made fun of Annan plan, but Annan report didn't state anything against the Greek Cypriot side.''
