Gul: Doors For A Solution To Cyprus Issue Have Not Been Closed Yet

ANKARA - Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said on Saturday that doors for a solution to Cyprus issue had not been closed yet.
Prior to his departure for Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) upon the invitation of TRNC President Rauf Denktas, Gul told reporters that the Cyprus issue still continued and the government was exerting efforts for a solution.
Gul said that they believed that insolubility was not a solution.
Noting that they found the call that Denktas made to the Greek Cypriot administration on April 2-4 as significant, Gul said, ''we are considering it a mutual confidence-building initiative.''
Gul said, ''Cyprus issue is a chronic problem.''
Foreign Minister Gul pointed out that Denktas exerted efforts for a solution but it was not right to consider one side responsible for insolubility in The Hague.
Recalling that opposition to Annan's plan came from both sides, Gul said, ''we believe that one-sided accusations are not right. Doors have not been closed yet. Efforts for peace will continue. We hope that a result will be reached.''
