GUL: ''TURKEY IS ALSO IN COALITION''
Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul announced to the whole world that Turkey was also in the coalition against Saddam during Powel's visit to Turkey. Turkey-U.S. relations which were tense due to the motion, got back to normal by the visit of U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell to Ankara. Turkey will open its borders for fuel and water support to U.S. troops in Northern Iraq. The U.S. in return will give projects to Turkish contractors in rebuilding of Iraq. Foreign Minister Gul said that the visit of Powell to Turkey had a good timing, adding that ''Turkey is within the coalition, it acts together with the ally countries.'' A coordination committee for Northern Iraq will be founded.

SURPRISING PACKAGE FROM DENKTAS
TRNC President Rauf Denktas proposed a package of proposals to Greek Cypriot side prior to April 16, by when the Greek Cypriot side would sign membership agreement with the EU. TRNC leader Rauf Denktas sent a letter to Greek Cypriot leader Tassos Papadopoulos proposing to transfer Maras to Greek Cypriots in return to lifting of all embargoes on TRNC. Greek Cypriots, who prepare to sign accession agreement with the EU on April 16 are not expected to accept the proposals.

TRANSFER WITHOUT MOTION
The vehicles which were brought by the U.S. to Turkey from Iskenderun port, were taken abroad from Habur border gate to Northern Iraq. Many military vehicles were transferred to Northern Iraq with an interesting method. The U.S. which had to take out the vehicles from Turkey until May 6 as the motion on transfer of deployment of U.S. soldiers was not adopted by the parliament, transferred the vehicles to Iraqi border without the need of a ''motion.'' The military vehicles had been transferred to Turkey within the scope of the first motion that was adopted in the parliament about modernization of bases and ports in Turkey.

POWELL: WE CAN ENTER NORTHERN IRAQ TOGETHER
Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul summed up the concerns of Turkey in Northern Iraq during his meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell and said ''our right to intervene is reserved.'' The two ministers agreed on intervention of Turkish Armed Forces and U.S. soldiers in Northern Iraq in coordination if things get out of control in Northern Iraq. Gul and his assistants think that the visit of U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell to Turkey was better than expected. ''The message that was given to the world in respect of Turkey is important. The importance of Turkey and its strategic partnership with the U.S. have been once again shown to the world by this visit of Powell,'' Gul and his assistants think. Prime Minister Erdogan also seems very pleased with the visit of Powell.

THREE 'YES' AND TWO 'NO' TO U.S.
Turkey accepted the demands of U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell about Turkey's sending fuel and food to U.S. soldiers in Iraq and use of the hospital in Incirlik base in Turkey. Yet Turkey rejected two demands of Powell. Powell conveyed five demands of the U.S. administration to Turkey regarding the military operation in Iraq. Turkey didn't accept the demands regarding Kurdish groups. U.S. wanted Turkey to meet certain humanitarian needs of Kurdish groups in Northern Iraq and to make border trade with Kurdish groups.

POWELL PROMISES SEZER TO RESPECT CONCERNS OF TURKEY
U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell promised President Ahmet Necdet Sezer yesterday to respect the sensitivities of Turkey in Northern Iraq. In return to the words of President Sezer who said that ''we expect the U.S. to be sensitive about the concerns of Turkey in Northern Iraq,'' Powell said that ''we know your view that international legitimacy has to be ensured about the fight in Iraq, your concern about this war and we respect them.''

POWELL GETS WHAT HE WANTS
U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell made AKP government accept its demand of providing logistics support via Turkey to U.S. soldiers, who will be deployed in Northern Iraq. Turkey and U.S. accepted in principle the transfer of food and fuel to U.S. forces and sending humanitarian assistance to the region via Turkey. Injured soldiers will also be treated in Turkey. Fuel oil will be transported to the region by Turkish lorries.

GUL: ''WE ARE IN THE COALITION''
U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell who persuaded Turkey not to enter Northern Iraq, said that they would take Turkey as a model when rebuilding Iraq. The sensitivities of Turkey in Northern Iraq were stressed once again during contacts of Powell in Ankara. Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said that Turkey which was in the coalition would continue its cooperation with the U.S. Many protests were held in Ankara yesterday due to the visit of Powell although tight security measures were taken.

DENKTAS TAKES INITIATIVE
While Greek Cypriots prepare to become a member of the EU on April 16, TRNC leader Rauf Denktas proposed a package of compromise to the Greek Cypriot side. Among the suggestions of Denktas, there is also the transfer of 'Maras' to the Greek Cypriot side. Greek Cypriot side examines the package.

CONDITIONAL APPROVAL TO AID
The war budget of U.S. President George W. Bush has got the first approval from the U.S. Congress. Yet U.S. House of Representatives gave conditional support to the budget which included one billion dollars of aid to Turkey, saying that U.S. Secretary of State Powell had to tell after his visit to Turkey that the latter made cooperation with the U.S. in the Iraqi war. The U.S. Senate will also discuss the budget.

BOMB ATTACK AGAINST BRITISH CONSULATE GENERAL
A bomb attack was staged against British Consulate General in Istanbul last night. The bomb which was left by unidentified person/s exploded around 00.50 a.m. No casualties were reported. Police started an investigation.

ANNAN PLAN AGAINST EU
Mehmet Ali Talat, the leader of the Republican People's Party (CTP) in TRNC said he didn't see any change in the attitude of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan who thought that Annan plan had to be negotiated. ''In my opinion, Annan plan is the best solution plan which Turkey and Turkish Cypriots can achieve, we must not forget that,'' asserted Talat. Talat visited the same day Prime Minister Erdogan. ''Annan plan has to be taken into consideration in the context of the agreement to be made when Greek Cypriot side joins the EU, so that Greek Cypriots won't say in the future that they would only abide by the EU norms while solving the Cyprus issue,'' Talat added.

Turkish national soccer team was beaten by English soccer team by 2-0 yesterday in Euro 2004 qualifying group. Turkish national team played well against England until the 75th minute of the match which was played in Sunderlan city of Britain last night. Darius Vassell and David Beckham scored the two goals of Britain.
