LEFKOSA - Peter Weiderud, World Council of Churches (WCC) Commission of the Churches on International Affairs director Peter Weiderud, and Salpy Eskidjian, the International Affairs programme executive, held contacts in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on Tuesday.
Weiderud and Eskidjian visited Republican Turkish Party (CTP) and Communal Liberation Party (TKP).
During their visit to CTP, Weiderud told reporters that the WCC, which was comprised of 342 churches in the world and exerted peace-compromise efforts, monitored Cyprus issue in recent years and searched what kind of a role could be played for solution of issue peacefully.
Weiderud noted that they wanted to focus on latest developments in Cyprus issue during their visit to the island.
CTP Foreign Relations Secretary and Lefkosa Mayor Kutlay Erk said that they believed that the new initiative on Cyprus issue would come from Turkey.
Claiming that ''a good opportunity was missed in Cyprus'', Erk alleged that ''Annan plan constituted a good ground for settlement of sustainable peace in Cyprus, all sides should come together on the basis of that plan, negotiate sustainable peace in Cyprus and shaped up, but those efforts were not exerted.''
The delegation later visited TKP.
