ANKARA - Iraqi Ambassador to Turkey Talib Abid Salih said on Tuesday that Turkey's opening its airspace meant supporting the attack on Iraq.
Felicity Party (SP) leader Recai Kutan visited Salih.
Salih said that attacks on Baghdad were ''attacks violating the human rights.''
Noting that the targets of the United States and Britain were not the government but the civilian people, Salih said that the last attack proved it.
Salih said that there were not any weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. If there were any, why shouldn't they use them against those who were attacking on their country, he asked.
Salih noted that they would have used those weapons if they had had and the fact that those weapons were not used was an evidence that there were not any weapons of mass destruction in their country.
The United States and Britain attacked on Iraq to own the resources especially the oil and protect the interests of Israel, Salih said.
Salih stated that Iraq was resisting to those attacks as a whole.
The Iraqi people would fight against those attacks till the very end, Salih said and hoped that the victory of Baghdad people would be the victory of whole humanity.
When a reporter said that U.S. State Secretary Colin Powell would bring onto the agenda some new demands during his visit to Turkey and asked about their expectations from that visit, Salih said, ''our expectation from Turkish government is this. The government should act in line with the will of the people. Turkish people don't want any support to be given to the U.S. army. We know this. Turkish government's opening the airspace to foreign planes means supporting this hostile attack. We perceive it as this.''
Salih added, ''needing support of Turkish government shows how weak this force is. We think that Turkish government should not open its airspace and enable use of its territory. We expect a noble position from Turkish government.''
Kutan said that they were pleased to see that the Iraqi people were resisting to the attacks of the United States and Britain as a whole.
An embargo against human rights had been imposed on Iraq since 1991, Kutan noted.
Kutan said that according to reports of the UNICEF, more than 500 thousand people died due to lack of food and medicine in Iraq in recent years.
Attacks on Iraq were not legal and did not have any legal and humanitarian reason, Kutan emphasized.
Kutan noted that civilians died in the attacks and some U.S. and British people wanted the war to be stopped.
The U.S. and British officials dreamt of ending the attacks in two or three days but they could not achieve their targets, Kutan said.
Kutan asked the unfair and inhumane attacks to be stopped as soon as possible and called on the government to close Turkish airspace.
Recai Kutan added that they would launch a campaign to collect humanitarian aid for Iraqi people.
