SIVAS - State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullatif Sener said on Sunday, ''Iraq war will have both positive and negative impacts on the Turkish economy.''
Speaking on a local TV channel in central province of Sivas, Sener explained his views about possible impacts of Iraq war on the Turkish economy.
''The war will have both positive and negative impacts on the Turkish economy. For instance, our tourism sector will be affected negatively. Because, tourists do not want to come to places where they feel they are not safe. When tourism sector is affected, transportation sector will also be affected negatively. However, construction sector and iron-steel sector will come to the forefront following the war, and war may be beneficial to these sectors.'' he said.
Replying a question about the letter of intent to be sent to the International Monetary Fund, Sener said, ''the letter of intent is currently under fourth review. I think that it will be completed next week.''
During his contacts in Sivas, Sener visited Association of Chambers of Tradesmen in Sivas Chairman Besir Koksal and Association of Village Chiefs in Sivas Chairman Ahmet Yuksektepe.
