ANKARA - Number of foreign tourists visiting Turkey in February of 2003 increased 12.1 percent to 478 thousand 117.
In the same period last year, 426 thousand foreign tourists visited the country.
The State Institute of Statistics (DIE) announced its report of numbers of arriving and departing visitors in February of 2003.
According to the report, number of arriving visitors, who preferred seaway, decreased by 18.5 percent and number of arriving visitors, who preferred railway, dropped by 10.1 percent.
Number of arriving visitors, who preferred airway, rose by 18.8 percent and number of arriving visitors, who preferred highway increased by 0.9 percent.
A total of 436 thousand 705 Turkish citizens came to Turkey in February. Number of arriving Turkish citizens, who preferred airway, increased by 30.8 percent and number of arriving Turkish citizens, who preferred highway, rose by 24.8 percent.
In February of 2002, a total of 348 thousand 215 Turkish citizens came to Turkey. As a result, number of arriving Turkish citizens increased by 25.4 percent.
Meanwhile, 443 thousand 665 foreign tourists and 389 thousand 555 Turkish citizens departed from Turkey in February.
Number of departing foreign tourists rose by 14.4 percent while number of departing Turkish citizens increased by 9.4 percent.
In the January-February period of 2003, number of arriving foreign visitors rose 14.7 percent to 840 thousand 466.
In the same period last year, 733 thousand 10 foreign tourists visited Turkey.
Number of departing foreign tourists rose 25.4 percent to 868 thousand 435 while number of departing Turkish citizens increased 21.5 percent to 729 thousand 645.
