LEFKOSA - President Rauf Denktas of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) said on Wednesday that referendum was a serious and official activity, stating that the referendum could not take place without thinking.
Denktas made a statement regarded with the action of a group held in Doganci village pertaining to resorting to referendum the Cyprus solution plan of the U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan.
Denktas said whatever is necessary for elections, the same preparations should be done for referendum.
Denktas said, ''what should be done is to implement the laws. I am addressing to the pioneers of those activities. You can not lead anywhere by rebelling against the laws and presenting our state to the world as a fascist organization.''
Denktas said, ''those who think of getting rich by entering to the European Union (EU), and those who say today's status quo should change, should also say how the status quo would change.''
Denktas said it was known that proposals of Karen Fogg, the former Turkey representative of the EU was behind all those activities. He said road map of Fogg was carried out perfectly by supporters and friends of Fogg.
Denktas said the people got bored by those activities, stating that, ''they ask me why requirements were not made. The requirement is the implementation of laws.''
