Dirioz: Reactions Stem From Lack Of Enough Information About Turkey's Intention

ANKARA - Ministry of Foreign Affairs Acting Spokesman Huseyin Dirioz said on Tuesday, ''reactions of some European and U.S. officials against Turkey's sending soldiers to northern Iraq, stem from their lack of enough information about Turkey's intention.''
Speaking at the weekly press conference, Dirioz said, ''on numerous occasions, we clearly explained Turkey's intention and approach about the Iraq crisis. Some reactions have changed in line with Turkey's statements. Turkey has some understandable concerns about northern Iraq.''
Referring to the inflow of refugees into Turkey in 1991, Dirioz said, ''some circles claim that Turkey will not face such an inflow of refugees. But, who can guarantee it?''
''Issues of border security and terrorism are among understandable concerns of Turkey. Turkey consider cooperation with the United States the best method in warfare. Therefore, we conveyed our intention to work with the United States in cooperation, coordination and transparency,'' he said.
Dirioz told reporters, ''negotiations with U.S. soldiers did not break off. The sides will continue holding negotiations in coming days. Turkey will take its decision in line with its requirements.''
Responding a question, Dirioz said, ''Turkey has always made contributions to security and welfare of the region. We stressed many times that Turkey did not have any secret agenda. Turkey has displayed its good will about Iraq.''
