Gul: There Is No Negative Aspect In Our Talks With U.S.

ANKARA - Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said on Sunday that the negotiations between Turkish and American officials were carried out in coordination and there was no negative aspect in the talks with the U.S.
Speaking to reporters, Gul said that the meeting between officials from Foreign Ministry, General Staff and U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Robert Pearson was positive. ''Everything goes on within coordination and reciprocal understanding. There is no negative aspect,'' Gul said.
Upon a question, Gul said that Turkey's Iraqi policy was very clear and principles of ''protection of Iraqi territorial integrity and Iraqi sources' belonging to all Iraqi people'' were on the basis of this policy. Gul said there was compromise on these issues.
Gul said that Turkey didn't want to deal with migration flow within Turkey, adding that Turkey clearly expressed this sensitivity to everybody and that it was respected.
Gul stated that another concern of Turkey for Northern Iraq is to prevent this region's being a free region for terrorist activities. Gul pointed out that everybody found reasonable this sensitivity of Turkey, adding that Turkey's being in contact with the coalition powers was normal as there was a war. Gul said Turkey could give its decision of entering Northern Iraq on its own will.
Gul remarked that the activities of the U.S. soldiers in Turkey continued within the framework of the parliament's decision, adding cooperation on humanitarian basis would also continue in the future. Gul said Turkey did many things within the scope of humanitarian aid activities. Gul stressed that Turkey permitted the landing of a C-130 plane carrying wounded persons, at Incirlik base last night within the scope of humanitarian aid.
Upon a question about the ongoing war, Gul said ''the things we watch on TV is not a movie.'' Noting that the ongoing process was a problem for the whole humanity, Gul said that Turkey hoped the war to end soon and the casualties to be at minimum level.
Answering a question about criticisms to the government saying that it pursued a hesitant policy about the Iraqi war, Gul said that the fact that Turkey was a democratic country had to be accepted. ''The parliament announced such a will according to Article 92 of the Constitution,'' Gul added.
