BRUSSELS - European Union (EU) Commissioner for external relations Chris Patten said on Thursday that they were closely following how Turkey would be affected by Iraq war and it was necessary to help Turkey which was under pressure.
Patten said in the extraordinary meeting of European Parliament in Brussels that EU Commission was careful and conscious concerning possible effects of war in Iraq on Turkey and it was following the developments.
Patten said that he held contacts in Turkey in previous weeks and added that he knew the realities of the region.
Patten said that they wanted Iraq administration to be given under the mandate of the United Nations as it was in Kosovo and the territorial integrity of Iraq to be protected.
