WASHINGTON - General Staff Planning Principles Chairman Gen. Resat Turgut said Turkey and the United States needed each other to form a better future.
Gen. Turgut, in a speech he delivered in American-Turkish Conference held in Washington, pointed out that Turkey and the United States were close allies of each other for a long time, and stressed that mutual confidence was always preserved.
Turgut said some media organs considered the decision taken in the parliament on March 1 pertaining to motion, as a blow on Turkish-American relations, but that this revealed that there was a fully functioning democracy in Turkey.
Turgut said, ''Turkey and the United States need each other to form a better future. It is possible to provide a closer cooperation in the field of defense and technology transfer.''
