SOME MINISTERS WARN ERDOGAN ON MOTION
Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan who was charged to form the new government, met separately with ministers at party headquarters. Erdogan asked ministers what was done in three and a half months. He and ministers also exchanged views on some projects and the new government. Some ministers warned Erdogan that if the motion which was not approved at the parliament comes to the agenda without any change, there can be some disagreements in the party group.

ERDOGAN HOLDS A TELEPHONE CONVERSATION WITH CHENEY
Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who was designated to form the new government, held a telephone conversation with U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney following the summit at Prime Ministry. During the conversation, Erdogan and Cheney exchanged views about a possible U.S.-led military action against Iraq and the motion. Erdogan told Cheney that Turkey was going through a new government process and stated that a new evaluation on demands mentioned in the motion should be made. Erdogan said that formation of the new government should be waited for making evaluation on the motion.

U.S. PRESIDENT BUSH CALLS FOR URGENT RESPONSE FOR MOTION AND AIR SPACE
The U.S. President George Bush sent a letter and verbal message to Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan through the U.S. Ambassador Robert Pearson. Bush said they did not have patience to wait more. Pearson officially conveyed the demand for air space, and stressed that Bush waited for an urgent response.
Bush sent the message that if Turkey and the United States would not enter Northern Iraq together and act together there, it would not be appropriate for Turkey to enter there by its own.
In a summit in which Erdogan, Prime Minister Abdullah Gul, and Chief of General Staff Gen. Hilmi Ozkok, they adopted to give a positive response to Washington.

CLOSURE TO HADEP ON CHARGES OF EXPENDING SUPPORT TO TERRORISM
The Constitutional Court unanimously decided to close down People's Democracy Party (HADEP) and banned its 46 members from politics for five years.
Constitutional Court Chairman Mustafa Bumin told reporters that they decided to close down HADEP on charges of several acts, and on charges that it aided and abetted the terrorist organization PKK, acted against inseparable integrity of the country and state and became a center of such acts.
Bumin said the documents in the People's Democracy Party (HADEP) file proved aid and assistance of the party to the terrorist organization.
Bumin told reporters that ''an act to back terrorism is in question here, we are not only talking about some statements.''

Chief of General Staff Hilmi Ozkok, who had gone to Cankaya Palace when the motion was rejected, pointed out that, ''views of Turkish Armed Forces should be shared with public.'' President Ahmet Necdet Sezer in response said, ''it will not be appropriate. Various interpretations can be made.''
When Gen. Ozkok had made a statement supporting the motion following this meeting, President Sezer said, ''it was not appropriate. He should not have asked my views if he would have made this.''
When the motion was rejected, Gen. Ozkok told Prime Minister Abdullah Gul that, ''we had made all our accounts on passage of the motion. We can not remain indifferent against Northern Iraq. It is obligatory to find a new formula.''

PRESS CENTER ESTABLISHED IN ISKENDERUN
A Press Information Center was established in Naval Base Command in Iskenderun. Naval Forces Captain Ertugrul Ucar, who made a statement in Press Information Center, briefed about the studies carried out in the region within the scope of possible action against Iraq.

The Constitutional Court decided to close down People's Democracy Party (HADEP) on charges that it became the center of acts against inseparable integrity of the country and nation by aiding and abetting the terrorist organization PKK besides several other acts. The court banned 46 people, including former HADEP leader Murat Bozlak, from politics for five years. Constitutional Court Chairman Mustafa Bumin said that the lawsuit was filed on January 29, 1999 and that the indictment referred to some lawsuits filed in State Security Courts (DGMs). Therefore, Bumin noted, the closure case lasted long.

YALMAN: ''TSK IS READY FOR EVERY MISSION''
Land Forces Commander General Aytac Yalman who inspected Iskenderun port said, ''our troops are at perfect level. We, as Turkish Armed Forces (TSK), are ready for every mission which our nation will give us.''

NATIONAL DEFENSE MINISTER GONUL SAYS TIME IS LIMITED FOR GIVING OPPORTUNITY TO A PEACEFUL SOLUTION IN IRAQ
National Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul said that time was very limited for giving an opportunity to a peaceful solution in Iraq, adding ''the government continues to assess the issue which has vital importance by all of its aspects by monitoring the international developments and in line with national interests.'' Parliamentary Planning and Budget Commission started to discuss 2003 year budget of the National Defense Ministry the same day. Referring to international and regional developments which directly affect the defense policy of the country, Gonul said that Turkey changed the doctrine it developed against terrorism in a way to respond to international terrorism following the terrorist incidents in the U.S. on Sept. 11. Gonul said that Turkey took part in International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan in that framework, adding that Turkey has still 200 military personnel in Kabul.

MILITARY ACTIVITY
U.S. activity continues in Turkey. Land Forces Commander General Aytac Yalman came to southern Iskenderun province to inspect the region. U.S. Land Forces Deputy Commander in Chief Gen. Michael Dodson who also inspected Iskenderun port, Mediterranean Region and Garrison Command in southern Mersin province later returned to Incirlik base by helicopter.

TACTICS WAR
While U.S. President George W. Bush has been putting pressure on Turkey to approve the second motion on dispatch of Turkish soldiers abroad and deployment of foreign armed forces in Turkey, Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who was designated to form the new government, wants to act in line with decision of the United Nations on March 17.

HADEP BANNED
The Constitutional Court decided to ban the People's Democracy Party (HADEP) on charges of aiding and abetting to the terrorist organization. Meanwhile, Supreme Court of Appeal Chief Prosecutor Sabih Kanadoglu filed a lawsuit with the request of closure of the Democratic People's Party (DEHAP).

Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who was designated to form the new government, Prime Minister Abdullah Gul and General Staff Chief General Hilmi Ozkok held a meeting yesterday. During the meeting, latest developments in Cyprus and letter of U.S. President George W. Bush were taken up.

GONUL: IRAQ CANNOT WIN THE WAR
National Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul said that in case of a possible war between Iraq and the United States, Iraq could not win the war. Gonul who informed Parliamentary Planning and Budgetary Commission regarding the budget of his ministry said that data were clear and if war would start, Iraq would not have the opportunity to win it. He added that no matter how heroically Iraq fought, the result would not change. He said that Iraq should implement the United Nations decisions.
