Yakis: We Did Not Promise United States To Approve Second Motion

ANKARA - Foreign Minister Yasar Yakis said on Tuesday, ''we did not promise the United States to approve the second motion.''
When asked by journalists, ''there are some news stories claiming that authorities of the first Prime Ministry motion on renovation of bases and ports were exceeded. What will you say?'' Yakis said, ''I cannot make any personal statement. However, military authorities stated earlier that all actions were carried out in line with the motion.''
When asked, ''some circles claim that the first motion became invalid after the second motion was rejected at the parliament. Is it true?'' Yakis said, ''the first motion was not suspended. However, works have slowed down. The United States expects Turkey to approve a new motion. However, we did not promise the United States to approve the second motion.''
When asked whether or not Turkey made any promise during the meeting between Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan and U.S. President George W. Bush, Yakis said that any promise was not made at the meeting.
Responding to a question about efforts to bring the second motion onto the parliamentary agenda again, Yakis said, ''Turkey will set a date to submit the motion to the parliament in line with its own agenda.''
When asked whether or not he would take part in the new cabinet, Yakis said, ''I do not have any information at this point. However, I will continue serving the AK Party.''
