ANKARA - The Higher Electoral Board (YSK) announced on Tuesday official results of the by-election in southeastern province of Siirt on March 9, 2003.
According to the official results, 73 thousand 624 out of 119 thousand 198 registered electors cast their votes in the by-election.
65 thousand 79 votes were considered valid, and 8 thousand 545 votes were considered invalid.
Rate of participation in the by-election was announced as 61.77 percent.
The Justice and Development Party (AK Party) won 55 thousand 203 of valid votes while the Republican People's Party (CHP) won 8 thousand 972 votes, the Labor Party (IP) won 500 votes and the Turkish Communist Party (TKP) won 404 votes.
AK Party leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Oner Ergenc and Oner Gulyesil were elected deputies in the by-election.
