ANKARA - Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said on Monday that he would present his resignation to President Ahmet Necdet Sezer following oath taking ceremony of Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the Parliament.
Gul responded to the questions of reporters following his meeting with Erdogan.
Stating that he paid a visit to Erdogan to congratulate him over yesterday's election results, Gul said they had the opportunity to make an evaluation.
Gul said they estimated the results to take place in this way, stating that democratic process would operate.
Gul said as he had stated earlier, an abnormal structure had been formed, and that it was not right for the leader of the biggest party of Turkey to enter November 3 elections. Gul said this mistake was firstly corrected in the Parliament and later by Siirt people.
Recalling that the government had the last Council of Ministers meeting, Gul said a new period would start after this.
Prime Minister Gul said he would pay a visit to President Sezer after Erdogan take his oath, and that thus he would open ways for the establishment of a new government.
When a reporter recalled the statement of Erdogan that he would evaluate the new government with Gul, he said, ''he will be the head of the new cabinet. He is the leader of the party. This is his right. It is his right to negotiate. Our consultation is an indication of how much our party attributes importance to democratic process.''
Responding to a question about the motion, Gul said, ''first of all, this process should end.''
When asked when Erdogan would take the oath, Gul said this process had to be accelerated.
Stating that there was no need for trivial delays, Gul said, ''certain results had been taken yesterday. If everything can be completed, he will be able to take oath tomorrow afternoon. If not, it can take place on Wednesday.''
