MERSIN - Persons who attended the ''Peace March Against War'' held by ''Peace and Democracy House Initiative'' came to southern Mersin province on Monday.
The 19-member delegation including Socialist Democracy Party (SDP) leader Akýn Birdal, Human Rights Association's (IHD) Secretary General Eren Keskin and journalist writer Ragip Zarakoglu was welcomed by a crowded group in Mersin.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Akýn Birdal said that they wanted to prevent a possible U.S.-Iraq fight, adding ''we are a society which suffered a lot from the war in 1991. It is natural for us to want peace. The parliament didn't approve the second motion on March 1, but the will of the people is ignored. Our ports become the military concentration of the U.S. under the name of 'modernization works.' This is against the will of the parliament and the nation.''
