WASHINGTON D.C. - U.S. Congress officials said on Thursday that the U.S. could give urgent credit with the name of ''bridging loan'' to Turkey before the approval of the economic assistance package to Turkey by the U.S. Congress.
U.S. Congress officials told A.A that the Foreign Exchange Stability Fund which was controlled by the U.S. Department of Treasury could be used for opening such a credit upon the order of the U.S. President in emergency cases and such practices were seen in the past.
Former U.S. President Bill Clinton ordered in February 1995 the giving of a credit of 20 billion dollars to Mexico from the Foreign Exchange Stability Fund in February 1995 to help this country which suffered from a heavy economic crisis.
