Negotiations On Memorandum Of Understanding To Be Finished Soon

ANKARA - The studies regarding the memorandum of understanding (MoU) in military, political and economic fields carried out between Turkey and the U.S. within the scope of a possible operation against Iraq are coming to an end.
Despite certain problems, the sides have reached compromise to a considerable extent on three documents that are expected to be signed, now a decision on the political level is expected to be taken.
The documents are expected to be signed following the adoption of the prime ministry motion on deployment of foreign soldiers and sending soldiers abroad by the parliament. Deniz Bolukbasi and Marisa Lino, who carry out the negotiations are expected to sign the document on military issues, while Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Ugur Ziyal and U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Robert Pearson are expected to sign the document on political issues.
Meanwhile, sources said U.S. President George W. Bush could send a thank-you letter to Prime Minister Abdullah Gul following the approval of the motion.
