ANKARA - Revised plan on Cyprus was assessed at the meeting between Prime Minister Abdullah Gul and United Nations (U.N.) Secretary General Kofi Annan on Monday evening.
Sources said on Tuesday that the meeting was held to inform the sides about the revised plan and added that details of the new plan were not taken up at the meeting.
Annan is expected to present the revised plan to the leaders in Cyprus on Wednesday.
Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Ugur Ziyal and Annan's Special Envoy to Cyprus Alvaro De Soto made presentations regarding map in the new plan and informed participants about technical issues at the meeting.
Sources quoted Annan as saying that they made changes in five issues in the plan by taking into consideration reservations of the Turkish Cypriot side and stated that to this end, they prepared a ''balanced'' plan which took into consideration interests of the sides.
Sources said that Annan asked for support of Turkey on the issue and quoted Annan as saying that Ankara should encourage Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Rauf Denktas to accept the plan.
Turkish side conveyed its concerns over ''political equality and bi-zonal structure'' to Annan and recalled that sufferings in 1960-70s should not be experienced again.
Turkish side gave message that process is supported and stated that the other side should also assume the same positive attitude.
Sources said that Annan was ''optimistic'' about the process.
Sources stated that Iraqi issue was also taken up and added that Turkey gave information about the final point which was reached on Iraqi issue at the meeting.
Deputy Undersecretary Baki Ilkin who also attended the meeting informed participants about negotiations on security which was made between Turkey and Greece in Ankara last week.
Sources added that Gul could go to Lefkosa after Annan presented the revised plan to the sides.
