Turkey And I.M.F. Intensify Talks On Primary Surplus And Budget

ANKARA - Deliberations between the International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation and economy bureaucrats were intensified on primary surplus and budget of 2003.
IMF officials were not fully convinced that the primary surplus target of 6.5 percent could be reached with current revenue and expenditure measures but they were trying to overcome the problems with negotiations.
Meanwhile, IMF delegation met with officials of Finance Ministry and tried to reach a full compromise on the budget of 2003.
State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullatif Sener and Finance Minister Kemal Unakitan had stated that the draft budget could be submitted to parliament in a few days.
Meanwhile, negotiations also attended by IMF Turkey Desk Chief Juha Kahkonen and Treasury Undersecretary Faik Oztrak continue in the Treasury Undersecretariat.
