Turkey And Greece Sign Natural Gas Pipeline Agreement

SALONICA - Energy and Natural Resources Minister Hilmi Guler and Greek Minister of Development Apostolos-Athanasios Tsokhatzopoulos signed on Sunday agreement on transportation of natural gas from Turkey to Greece.
The agreement foresees construction of natural gas pipeline, interconnection of natural gas systems of the two countries and sale of natural gas from Turkey to Greece.
Speaking at the ceremony, Guler said that energy need of Europe would be met via Greece with that project.
Guler noted that the agreement would be advantageous for Turkey and Greece and added that they would have the opportunity to launch other joint projects.
Tsokhatzopoulos said that the natural gas pipeline would help meet energy demand of Europe in the future.
A total of 280 kilometres of natural gas pipeline, 200 kilometres in Turkey and 80 kilometres in Greece would be laid as a part of the project which was financed by the European Union (EU) and cost 250 million U.S. dollars, Tsokhatzopoulos added.
