Logoglu: There Are Still Some Details Which Should Be Examined

WASHINGTON - Turkey's Ambassador in Washington Faruk Logoglu said agreement with the United States was very close, stating that a result could be reached on Monday.
Logoglu, who spoke to U.S. Fox News channel, pointed out that, ''we are very close to agreement. However there are still some details which we should focus on. I believe that we may reach a result on Monday.''
The U.S., within the scope of preparations for a possible war against Iraq, awaits the Parliament to take a decision about the motion to deploy soldier in Turkey. Turkey, which feels concern over the military, political and financial consequences of a possible war in Iraq, is searching for an agreement with the United States on a written memorandum of understanding to overcome its worries.
Replying a question why the United States should expend financial support to Turkey, Logoglu said, ''this is not only a monetary issue. Turkish government has political and military evaluations. A total of 95 percent of Turkish people is against war. We demand our losses to be compensated because we faced an important economic loss at the end of the Gulf War. Even talks that there may be war in Iraq give damage to Turkish economy. Distancing of potential investors from Turkey may be in question. To this end, we want to be sure that we will not suffer loses.''
When asked whether or not Turkey was willing to contribute re-construction following war in Iraq, Logoglu said Turkey would like to be a part of the international efforts pertaining to re-construction in case war erupted.
Logoglu said primary target of Turkey was preservation of Iraq's territorial integrity, stating that it was important for Turkey that all sections of the Iraqi population would have equal rights to utter a word about the future of the country.
