BRUSSELS - Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal said on Friday that a solution without war should be searched for Iraq crisis and war was a contradiction.
Baykal, who attended the meeting in which European Socialist Party leaders participated, said that socialist leaders discussed what could be done to prevent war.
Noting that resolutions of United Nations Security Council should be taken as basis in the search of solution to Iraq crisis, Baykal said that there were not any conditions which necessitated a military operation in current step and added that UN arm inspectors should carry on studies with broader opportunities.
Baykal said that using weapons and causing deaths for the purification of Iraq from weapons would be a contradiction and added that it was necessary to find solutions with different means. He emphasized that a war in Iraq would cause serious problems in the region.
European socialist leaders recorded progress for a common attitude although manners changed in the meeting. Socialist leaders said that they were in favor of searching solution by peaceful ways and related with UN.
Baykal will depart from Belgium on Saturday.
